* * * Winter Bee Kinds * * *

Our very popular Winter-Bee-Kinds go on sale TOMORROW, Saturday, August 1st. They will be shipped in the order in which the orders are placed so be ready this weekend to place your order. They will ship in November in cooler weather, usually near the end of November. They are a favorite among beekeepers across the country in helping honey bees make it through the winter.

Our Winter-Bee-Kinds provide the nourishment your bees need to remain warm and strong in the coldest of climates. They also provide insulation and ventilation to rid the colony of stale, moist air from the hive. In areas of very harsh winters, we recommend wrapping your colony and only use the exit/vent port on the winter-bee-kind located at the top of the colony. This helps prevents mice from entering through the lower entrance and allows your bees to take cleansing flights more easily on colder days.

Although the website says "Sold Out" now, it will say "Add To Cart" this Saturday, August 1, 2020. Be ready. Order for 10 or 8 frame hives. Here's the link:

We are David and Sheri Burns at Long Lane Honey Bee Farms, www.honeybeesonline.com

The nectar flow may soon be ending in your neck of the woods. Be sure to start feeding your bees as soon as the nectar flow ends. They are still raising young brood and these developing larvae must continue to be feed well by nurse bees. It will help if you feed your bees. Use our Burns Bees Feeding System now available online.

Poor nutrition can lead to many negative effects on your colony. Fall is coming and even before fall you may see an end to all nectar flows.

Prepare now to begin feeding your bees as soon as the nectar flow ends. Do not let your bees down now. Feed! Feed! Feed!

Our feeding system will keep resources above your hive away from those pesty, fall robber bees.

A question I'm often asked is how should the entrance reducers be set? Should the small opening be used or the large one? Do you even need an entrance reducer during the summer? How To Keep Bees Cool In Hot Weather & How To Keep Your Queen Out Of Your Honey Super

We are David and Sheri Burns at Long Lane Honey Bee Farms, www.honeybeesonline.com

If you've been outside you probably have been overtaken by the heat and humidity. How can you keep your bees cool?

Keeping bees cool seems like an unnecessary task. After all, bees should love summer, right? Yes, to a point. The problem arises inside the hive where 40-60,000 bees crowd into close quarters and soon you have the recipe for an overheated colony. Bees can actually become ill, and developing brood can perish and wax can melt. In my new video below I'll give several pointers on how to keep your hives cooler on those extremely hot summer days. The second video is how to check to see if your queen is up in the honey supers. Take a look at these videos and enjoy!
